A Season of Gratitude: Reflections from Surgery Associates

As the year draws to a close, we pause to reflect on what truly defines our work at Surgery Associates: compassion, faith, and gratitude. Every day reminds us that medicine is not just a profession or a science, but a calling rooted in service and love. Surgery begins with precision and skill, but true healing reaches far deeper, touching the human spirit. This season, our team reflects on how gratitude and faith continue to shape the way we serve.

Compassion in Every Interaction
For many on our team, the workday begins long before a procedure. It begins with how we speak, how we listen, and how we treat every patient and their loved ones with respect and kindness.
“As soon as I pick up the phone,” Karen Hunt shared, “I always want to speak kindly. We never know what someone is going through, whether it’s cancer or pain after surgery, but we can always let them know we care.”
Small moments of compassion ripple outward, reminding us that healing happens in conversation, reassurance, and shared prayer as much as in the operating room.

Gratitude and Connection
Several of our team members describe this work as deeply personal.
“I’m thankful for many things in my life,” Rhonda Pridmore said, “but my employment at Surgery Associates has been the most fulfilling. Working with cancer patients, seeing their faith grow, celebrating their clear reports, it’s what caring for patients is meant to be.”
Samantha Lawman reflected, “Supporting patients through their healthcare journey reminds me daily of the gift of life and family. Being able to do that every day is what God has called me to do.”
These moments remind us that medicine is built not only on science, but on service and the belief that every life we touch carries sacred value.
We are continually inspired by the gratitude our patients show us. A kind word, a handwritten note, or a heartfelt hug: each gesture strengthens our resolve to give our very best.
“My favorite thing,” Karen Hunt said, “is when a patient asks to meet me just to say thank you. Sometimes I even get a big hug, and that’s an added bonus.”
It is a beautiful exchange — we give care, and in return, our patients remind us what grace looks like in everyday life.
For Dr. Orgler, one experience from this year stands out as a reminder of that deeper purpose — saving a patient’s life after a gunshot wound to the chest and abdomen. In moments like these, the weight of responsibility is matched only by the grace of teamwork.
“Working alongside excellent partners and staff makes my job easier and more rewarding,” Dr. Orgler shared.
His words capture the trust and collaboration that anchor our practice — a reflection of how every life saved is the result of many hearts working as one.

Faith at Work: A Story of Healing
Ashley Logan shared one patient story from this year that continues to move her. A husband and wife came to discuss a cancer diagnosis. With quiet conviction, she said, “We serve an awesome God. We are believing the cancer is gone.” Before leaving, she asked, “Do you believe in the power of prayer?” Together, they prayed for healing.
Just one week later, she called with news that still gives us chills: the scans and scope were completely clear. “No cancer,” she said. “God is so good.”
It was a moment that echoed the promise of Luke 18:27 — “What is impossible with man is possible with God.”
